The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue Team is the only entity of its kind in this region. Rigorous training objectives, far reaching operational capabilities and specialized life-saving equipment enable LPSO SAR to serve as a primary responder to both manmade and natural disasters throughout the area. By partnering with other agencies such as the Lafayette Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance and civilians with special skills, the team is prepared to respond to nearly any search and rescue related emergency.
I authorized the creation of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team in August 2017 because of our need to have highly trained individuals capable of responding to a wide range of emergencies. While those emergencies often include hurricanes and floods and other natural disasters, their expertise in locating lost persons is an invaluable resource to the people of this parish. The SAR team’s technical search capabilities also supports many other functions within this agency.
